Downton Abbey: YOU gets up close and personal on series two of the hit period drama

By EMMA COX

Lady Mary Crawley (Michelle Dockery) is ready for her close up

It’s got the cast, the style and enough intrigue to fill the 50-plus rooms of Highclere Castle, where it is filmed. With the long-awaited new series of Downton Abbey soon to enliven our Sunday evenings, YOU goes behind the scenes on this most lavish of sets

Above: Lights, costumes ... drama!

With nearly 11 million viewers, the first series of Downton Abbey was last year’s big drama hit for ITV1. And series two — scheduled for early autumn — has all the ingredients for another Sunday-night blockbuster. The action begins in 1916: it’s World War I and Downton Abbey (‘played’ by Highclere Castle in Berkshire) has been turned into a convalescent home by Cora, Countess of Grantham (Elizabeth McGovern). ‘Each character is profoundly affected in ways they don’t expect,’ says Elizabeth, ‘and for some of the women it’s actually very liberating.’

This season’s costumes are more austere, as befits wartime, but no less painstakingly researched. Between takes hairstyles are protected by nets, and actors put on coats or robes. Maggie Smith has the most elaborate outfits as the Dowager Countess of Grantham. Newcomer Amy Nuttall, who plays new housemaid Ethel, says, ‘The “downstairs” scenes are filmed at Ealing Studios, so it’s rare but lovely when both the servants and “upstairs” are all here at Highclere’

Above: Lady Edith (played by Laura Carmichael) sits with a badly injured soldier, whose identity is a closely guarded secret. ‘The grounds are beautiful,’ she says, ‘but we’re mindful that people live here. Lord and Lady Carnarvon [Highclere’s owners] must feel like the Granthams, having their home taken over by so many people!’

Tears of Sarajevo: Angelina Jolie wells up as she is honoured at Bosnian Film Festival

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Tears: Angelina welled up on stage at the 17th annual Sarajevo Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina last night as she was honoured with an award for her film In The Land Of Blood And Honey

Angelina was nearly moved to tears last night as she was honoured at an award ceremony in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The actress who turned up to the 17th Sarajevo Film Festival unannounced with her partner Brad Pitt, at the city's National Theatre, couldn't contain her emotion as she was presented with a heart-shaped award at the closing ceremony.

Clearly humbled, the 36-year-old welled up as she took to the stage as the crowd gave her a standing ovation.

'I will start crying if you don't stop,' she said in a quivering voice.

'I told Brad in the car I was afraid I was going to cry.'

'I am so honoured to be here at this festival. There is no greater example of the strengths of the artists and the festival that began during the war and grew stronger every year, ' she added.

Angelina was honoured for her directorial début, In The Land Of Blood And Honey.

All smiles: Earlier in the evening, Angelina was all smiles as she walked the red-carpet with Brad Pitt

She filmed the drama, which tells the tale of 'how a couple's romance is affected by the 1992-95 Bosnian War,' in the Eastern European country last year.

'Tonight we are giving the honorary Heart of Sarajevo to a great artist, not only for the great impact she has in the world of cinema but also for persisting and her active engagement in the complexities of the real world we live in,' said Festival Director Mirsad Purivatra as he presented Angelina with the award.

The actress slipped into a floor-length peach gown slit to the thigh, for the occasion.

What are you looking at? Brad couldn't help but stare at his beautiful partner's stunning assets

On the arm of her handsome partner Brad Pitt, she flashed hints of her long toned legs.

She also flashed what appeared to be a new tattoo on her left arm..

The inking seemed to be quite large taking up most of forearm.

Angelina went natural with her make-up, and wore her long brunette hair out in a natural straight style.

Meanwhile, Brad looked dapper in a slimline black suit and open-neck white shirt.

Still looking: Brad just couldn't take his eyes off the stunning actress who was flanked by two security guards

Angelina also played presenter on the night, presenting Austrian actor Thomas Schubert with the award for the Best Actor for his film Atmen.

In the past, her involvements in Bosnia have not stopped short of her film.
The philanthropist has also visited the war torn country as a ambassador for the U.N.'s refugee agency UNHCR.

The festival was a hop, skip, and an aeroplane ride from London, where Brad and Angelina have laid their roots temporarily while the actor films post-apocalyptic horror film World War Z.

Mother-of-six Angelina has been having a ball sight-seeing and shopping with the couple's six children.

This week the Salt actress took two of her children, Shiloh, five, and Zahara, six, to The Toy Station store in Richmond, where they loaded up on a number of items, including toy currency.

A Toy Station worker told the Mail Online that Ange and her daughters arrived at the store with their bodyguard and happily browsed with other customers.

'Once the other customers had left her bodyguard politely asked if we could close the doors while they shopped,' the worker revealed.

New ink: Angelina flashed what appeared to be a new tattoo on her arm as she waved to her fans alongside Brad

They added: 'The girls were very well behaved and Miss Jolie was very attentive to the children. She was very nice, calm and down to earth. A very natural family.'

The worker said that Angelina bought a number of items from the store but didn't spend too much money. 'She mainly bought pocket money toys.'

The actress bought a number of cap guns and joke items such as water-squirting cameras as well as the fake money.

Applause: Brad and Ange sat in the front row at the ceremony and enthusiastically clapped other recipients

Also on the shopping list was a £25 Strawberry Fairy costume for Zahara, who is known for her love of girly clothes, while sister Shiloh is a bit of a tomboy.

As with everywhere the family ventures, a crowd soon gathered when they realised who was inside the store.

The actress' bodyguard and a community support officer helped hold the fans and photographers at bay as the smiling trio, Angelina looking chic in a beige top and skirt and matching wedges, left the store.

While her Brad is at work, Angelina has been keeping the children busy with days out.

Earlier in the week she took Zahara, Shiloh and three-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne to the London Aquarium.

The entire brood were also treated to a private screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 at the Odeon in Richmond.

Una Healy, Katherine Kelly and Kirsty Gallacher lend some celebrity glamour to Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall's wedding

By EMILY SHERIDAN

Making a statement: Singer Una Healy (left) wore a floral bandeau dress and tilted hat, while actress Katherine Kelly wore a pale pink asymmetrical number at the wedding of Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall yesterday

At the extravagant April wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Westminster Abbey was full of royals, heads of state and politicians.

But at the smaller scale nuptials of Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall yesterday, it was somewhat of a more glamorous guest list with stars from the world of pop, TV and sport garnering attention.

Leading the famous faces in the pews of Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh were soap star Katherine Kelly, The Saturdays' singer Una Healy and TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher.

Interesting fascinator: TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher, pictured with husband Paul Sampson, wore a multi-coloured dress, nude heels and unusual jade fascinator

And of course, there was plenty of representation from the world of sport, with both Tindall's teammates past and present and Phillips' colleagues from the riding world in attendance.

One of the first to arrive was Coronation Street actress Kelly, who went for a Seventies-look in a pale pink asymmetrical ankle-length dress by James Stewart Couture and a striking orange H'atelier hat and oversized clutch bag.

Top heavy: Irish singer Healy wore a tilted champagne hat created by Philip Treacy while Kelly opted for an eye-catching wide-brimmed orange hat with fuchsia bow by H'atelier

Kelly, 31, is an old schoolfriend of Tindall, with her parents living close to his father Phil and mother Linda in Yorkshire.

She said recently: 'I went to school in Wakefield with Mike. Our parents live in the same village and we’ve stayed really good mates.'

Going for a much sexier look was Irish singer Healy, 29, in a black floral-print bandeau dress and white and mocha peep-toe heels.

She accesorised her tight dress with an oversized saucer hat by milliner Philip Treacy, pale pink pashmina and a nude clutch.

Dapper: Healy's date was her boyfriend and Tindall's teammate Ben Foden

Healy attended with her boyfriend, Northampton Saints and England player Ben Foden - a teammate of Tindall.

Ahead of the nuptials, she wrote of her excitement at being invited on Twitter: 'Thanks to my stylists Frank Strachan and Lloyd Powell for sorting me a Philip Treacy Hat for The Royal Wedding tomorrow!

'Just about to take off for Edinburgh with Ben, really excited for the weekend.'

Well heeled: TV presenter Natalie Pinkham (left) in red, and Olympic skeleton racer Amy Williams in pale pink, both wore nude heels

Sky Sports presenter Gallacher, who wed rugby player Paul Sampson last year, found her pretty multi-coloured dress overshadowed by her unusual jade fascinator.

Gallacher has become good friends with the bride thanks to their respective spouses, who were previously teammates for Bath.

The TV presenter even became one of the lucky few to see Zara's Stewart Parvin dress before the big day.

The 35-year-old said: 'Zara's so cool, she's going to look amazing, she's chosen a beautiful dress.

'Mike and Zara are brilliant together. She's so good for him, she's so chilled out and he's quite laid back as well so they fit together really nicely.

'Obviously she's really into sport and he loves the life they lead together with the horses and they've got lots of dogs so it's lovely.'

Now Zara dazzles on HER day as a wedding princess: The Queen's granddaughter ties the knot with rugby ace Mike Tindall

By JO MACFARLANE

Just married: Beaming bride Zara Phillips and her new husband Mike Tindall pose in Holyrood Abbey, Palace of Holyroodhouse following their marriage on Saturday

In a single tender moment, their love was plain to see. Standing in the warm Edinburgh sunshine, Zara Phillips sealed her marriage to England rugby star Mike Tindall yesterday with a gentle kiss.

The newlyweds gazed at each other and exchanged a sweet smile before leaving the Canongate Kirk on the city’s ancient Royal Mile hand-in-hand to greet the 6,000 well-wishers who had gathered on the narrow streets.

It was another proud day for the future of the British Monarchy.

Give us a kiss! Newlyweds Zara and Mike share a tender kiss outside Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, Scotland after getting married

Newlyweds: Zara and Tindall make their way out of the church a married couple

Although the couple seemed determined to keep their wedding a private family occasion, the crowds seemed equally determined to share in their happiness during the first Royal wedding to be held in Scotland in 20 years.

Many frantically waved Union Jacks and the Scottish Saltire as the couple emerged from the ceremony shortly before 4pm, filling the air with cheers. Some, clearly touched by the splendour of the occasion, dabbed their eyes.

One of the highlights was always going to be the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, attending their first wedding since their own just three months ago.

Simple but chic: The ivory dress by Stewart Parvin perfectly suited Zara's athletic frame

But even they could not overshadow Zara on her special day.

In a romantic full-length ivory silk gown with silk tulle detail, designed by the Queen’s favourite couturier Stewart Parvin, the one-time Royal rebel, who was on Friday seen in scruffy jeans and flip-flops, looked every inch the traditional bride.

For the talented equestrian – who is often reluctant to embrace her regal lineage – this was her chance to be a princess for a day.

So happy: The bride looked ecstatic as she waved to well-wishers after marrying Tindall

With her blonde hair swept up into an elegant full-bodied chignon and sparkling with diamonds from the Greek Key tiara lent by her mother, she managed to look effortlessly beautiful and happy.

The full veil, also made of silk tulle, was held back from her face as she held a stunning large white bouquet, studded with thistles in a nod to the location, by Mayfair florist Paul Thomas. On her feet were an elegant pair of Jimmy Choo shoes.

Zara, 30, reportedly the Queen’s favourite granddaughter, was accompanied to the church by her proud father Captain Mark Phillips after earlier leaving in a Bentley from the Palace of Holyroodhouse several hundred yards down the Royal Mile.

Family pride: Mother of the bride Princess Anne wore a red pleated skirt and floral jacket (left), while the Queen wore a pink Stewart Parvin jacket and matching hat by Rachel Trevor Morgan over a floral dress

She arrived at 3.07pm, fashionably late for the 3pm service.

Her maid of honour, best friend Dolly Maude, wore a dove grey dress with dramatic Dior bow by Stewart Parvin.

Her bridesmaids – Jaz Jocelyn, the daughter of a family friend; the best man’s daughter Hope Balshaw; Zara’s half-sister Stephanie Phillips; and Mrs Maude’s daughter Nell – wore off-white dresses with a simple bow by local dressmaker Sue Palmer. Pageboy Ted Maude, Zara’s godson, delighted the crowd in a traditional Balmoral tartan kilt.

Stylish sisters: Princess Beatrice went for blue Angela Kelly ensemble and yet another pair of nude heels, while her younger sister Princess Eugenie opted for a cream and brown number by the same designer

The couple had begun their wedding celebrations in style with a cocktail party on board the decommissioned Royal yacht Britannia on Friday night. Later, wedding guests were to be seen on George Street enjoying Edinburgh’s nightlife.

But Zara returned to the Queen’s official Scottish residence, Holyroodhouse, to spend her final night as a single woman with close family.

Senior Royals, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, also stayed at the Palace.

Stylish: Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly was among the first guests to arrive

Sophisticated: The Saturdays singer Una Healy wore a pretty black and turquoise strapless dress as she attended with her boyfriend, rugby player Ben Foden

Leggy ladies: (L-R) Natalie Pinkham wore a backless red dress while Kirsty Gallacher (with partner Paul Sampson) opted for a colourful number with nude heels, while Olympic Skeleton racer Amy Williams donned a pretty nude-coloured dress and matching hat
